Android 2.3 Gingerbread software update “in next few weeks”
Nexus S is quickest way to get your hands on new Android software.
Jonesing for Android 2.3 but don’t want to drop £550 on that sleek new Samsung Google Nexus S? Well, it looks like you’ve got a bit of a wait on your hands according to Android developer Reto Meier.
Meier took to Twitter last night to refute claims that an over-the-air update for the now old-school Nexus One was imminent. He said, “The Nexus One OTA isn’t happening just yet – should be coming in a few weeks”.
The update to Android 2.2 FroYo has proved to be a long and fraught process, with many punters still lacking the software despite it being in the wild for over six months. Expect a similarly lengthy process for Gingerbread, especially when it comes to phones rocking custom UIs and tweaks, which make changes harder to implement.
