Apple iPad Wi-Fi + 3G Review – Is 3G Worth It?
What does the addition of 3G do for the iPad? It make it truly portable…but there’s price to pay

The iPad has a really superb, 9.7-inch screen with seamless multi-touch, the most user friendly interface available on a mobile device and a new,fast,costume-designed processor. Most tech lovers are in agreement that it is a lust-including gadget. But is it worth to paying extra and committing to a data tariff for added 3G connectivity?
The iPad Wi-Fi + 3G allows you to download apps on the fly, browse the web from anywhere and also use A-GPS. the flexibility it offers is fantastic. But bored? Download an iBook. Lost your way? Lunch Google Map and let it guide you to safety.
Using a Vodafone micro SIM, browsing reached a maximum of 7.2Mbps and only once on our test did the signal drop completely. Download time are impressively swift; the 10.8Mb Harbor Master HD took 57 seconds – pretty respectable compared to 45
seconds on the non-3G iPad. The smaller,1.8MB Shazam app downloaded in 20 seconds flat.
A 20MB single download cap on 3G means you’ll have to use the Wi-Fi connection to download large games or files, so load up before you head out. For smaller, impulse purchases, though, the 3G is deal.
The iPad Wi-Fi + 3G start at $813.153, then data plans add around an extra $11.5-$15 a month. if you’re constantly on the go, 3G set you free. However, although very good indeed, the iPad isn’t always as ideal portable device. Unlike the OLED screened HTC Hero it can manage outdoors in shade, but browsing in direct sunlight is a non-started. It also heavier than you think. Although the 3G version adds GPS , it’s not ideal as a pedestrian satnav and unlike on Android device you will have to pay for an app to make it into a turn-by-turn satnav for your car.
Exiting smartphone user may find it more cost effective to continue using their mobile for casual browsing outdoors. especially if you have an unlimited data tariff. The 3G model is also, of course, of limited use to anyone who intends to use the iPad only at home or the office, using Wi-Fi.
It’s annoying indeed that Apple won’t let you tether your iPad or your iPhone or any other smartphone, come to that. However, if you habitually browse the web when on the go, you long for something bigger screen than a smartphone screen and money isn’t tight, the Apple iPad Wi-Fi + 3G will make your life just that little bit better…
Details
- Love – 3G makes the iPad truly portable, with fast download ties and easy connection.
- Hate - You only need a 3G one because Apple won’t let you tether to your iPhone or other smartphone. The screen’s virtually unusable in direct sunlight
