Relatively compact big zoom that’s bang on for shooting fast action…
With bulging plastic construction, the pumped up 10-megapixel FH25 resembles either a compact that’s been 10 the gym or a DSLR that’s fallen on slightly hard times.
The ridged rubber surround to the lens barrel looks like it should be fir manual adjustment, but is just to aid grip. Instead the 10x optical zoom is operated via a lever on the main shutter release button.
The Casio isn’t just powerful but speedy too, with impressive shooting speeds on offer. Motion JPEG movie scan be captured at L000 frames per second at 224×64-pixels resolution and replayed in ultra slow-mo. If that’s too small, 128ox720 clip scan be shot at 3ofps with use of the optical zoom. No dedicated video record button. though.
Ten-meg stills can also be shot at 30fps with a single button press, while for optimum quality Raw files arc offered as well as JPEG. After taking a leisurely three seconds to power up the Casio is fast and responsive. Alongside aperture, shutter and manual there arc 26 scene modes.
Results are generally good although shots taken at maximum,20x telephoto display a noticeable softness. At the wider end of the zoom good edge to edge sharpness is maintained, but the FH25 is one of the worst offenders here for visible pixel fringing between
areas of high contrast and in duller conditions it’s tricky to achieve an evenly exposed result.
We can see the appeal of the Casio to families with hyperactive children or those whose main thing is shooting sporting events. Better overall options are tube had. though.
