DELL XPS 15Z Laptop Review – The Macbook Pro Beating Performance
DELL XPS 15Z Laptop Review – Stunning looks and MacBook Pro-beating performance; the Dell XPS15Z is a powerhouse. This is the heaviest laptop on test and is gunning more for the high-powered MacBook Pro than the Air – it recently overtook Apple’s high-end laptop.
The 15Z sure looks the part with a ciassy, brushed metal facade and a fantastically crisp. full-MD 15.6 inch screen. The 1080p resolution, impressive viewing angles and winning contrast levels make it the best screen on test, and the one that’s happiest when displaying big-budget HD movies -though you’ll have to rip or download your HD films to the hard drive as there’s only a DVD player rather than Blu-ray,
The good news is that you get 750GB of storage – enough for the entire re-worked Star Wars saga plus endless Blu-ray extras, if you’re that way inclined. We were blown away by the powerful speakers too. They deliver well-rounded audio and are loud like a wookie in a tumble dryer.
An Intel Sandy Bridge Core i7 processor is nestled inside and, backed up by a mighty 8GB of RAM, it ensures you’llĀ have no problems running the latest applications and games, and multitasking like crazy.
Most games run well on the Dell, thanks to the dedicated, Nvidia GeForce 525M graphics card, although you may have to turn down detail levels on the most demanding titles.
Despite all that power, the metallic frame remains impressively cool – no penile scorching likely here. The battery will outlast any movie you want to watch on it and gives a generous amount of web browsing time.
The DELL XPS 15Z is not the most portable laptop on test, but if you want a machine that’s ready for anything and boasts power to spare you should be willing to put up with the extra weight in your backpack – just think of the calories you’ll be burning.
