Kodak Slice: Built for Showing off Snaps Onscreen and Online

With a smooth , nickel-finished body and an internal 5x optical zoom, the Slice is the most stylish Kodak we’ve seen and probably the best looking camera here...

with 2GB it’s also got by far the most built-in storage – there’s a microSD slot too. The reason being that the Slice is for those who like to show pic to everyone they meet.

Further reflecting this, the Slice is purpose-built for sharping pic online. Install the Kodak Web App then, when you’ve taken a picture, select whether to upload to Flickr, Kodak Gallery or Facebook. Next time you connect to a PC or MAC, hit the Share button to upload pictures. That’s it.

As well as being stored full-size for saving and printing, up to 5,000 photos can be resized and stored in the on board 2GB slice Album. You can apply place and keyword tag to photos, and store tags for 20 faces, though it doesn’t always manage to recognize them as it should.

As a Web 2.0 device and visual archive the Slice is great, if over-priced. As a pure camera it’s not so hot. Starting in under two seconds, its settings are all accessed via the 3,5-inch thouchscreen, but it’s sluggish.

The Slice works adequately as a point-and-shoot camera with an auto mode and 14 scene modes, but images are mediocre next to the other contenders here. At maximum zoom detail is soft, wide angle result lack detail, though the 10cm macro mode produced sharp results. The video mode, although HD, provides the least detailed redults on test.

If you can live with that , you might fall for this snapper’s sheer style, but we’d hesitate to recommend it at this price.

Love – Smart looks. Quick web upload. Internal storage means it’s as much a mobile visual archive as a camera

Hate – Nasty zoom control. Sluggish touchscreen. Only average picture

We Say – Perfect for novices who want to snap and upload, but more discerning photographers should look elsewhere
