New XBox 360 Kinect: XBox 360 Slim
XBox 360 Slim, Now has N Wi-Fi; 250GB Storage; Black and Shiny Exterior…
The PlayStation 3 did it almost a year ago , and now the Xbox 360 has followed by slimming down and getting a new look – one that’s rather similar to the old PS3, curiously enough. The result is a very impressive mix of the 360′s established strengths with some great new tricks, all for the same price as the old 360 Elite.
The upgraded Xbox 360 – it doesn’t have a new name, unlike the PS3 Slim – is 15% slimmer than previous model and an inch shorter.
It’s finally got N Wi-Fi, so no need for an adapter to unlock the joy of Xbox Live. The internal hard drive is now 250GB as standard – the Elite was available with 120GB or 250GB.
Huge vents on the side help keep it whisper quiet according to Microsoft. That should make a nice change from the aircraft-taking-off sound of the previous 360 and mean fewer overheating problems. even if it doesn’t there’ll still be no more Red Ring Of Death as the iconic green circle of lights can no longer turn red. Problem Solved!
There are two additional USB ports, bringing the total up to five, as well as a special one for your Kinect System, an optical audio output and a Kensington security lock. The controllers and power supply have also been redesigned, both sporting the same black finish as the console.
There’s still no free HDMI cable and an Xbox Blu-ray drive remains but a pipe dream but hey, it’s number one. Why try harder?
Get YourSelf Kinected – Controllers Motion Control is Go…
Xbox 360Kinect, the motion control system formerly known as Project natal, has arrived, letting you motion control games, Wii-style, but without the need for a controller: you just wave your arms and move your body while the Kinect’s camera system track you in 3D.
Plugging in is very simple on the new 360 thanks to its dedicated Kinect port. Older 360s can hook up too using USB dongle and a plug.
The launch line-up seems to be aimed squarely at the Wii market of, without being patronizing, kids and housewives. Sports, fitness games and dancing simulators are well to the fore, butthere was at least a Star War game demoed at the lunch which is much more , er , adult.
Media via Kinect can be voice-as wll as gesture-controlled, so you’ll be able to fire up a movie by saying, “Xbox, play”. Next year Kinect will be able to link video with Windows Live Messenger, allowing you to video chat with millions of people all over the world, It’ll also integrate custom news feeds, so you can talk about day’s news together as if you’re in the same room.
it’s early days yet, but Kinect has possibilities far beyond party games – pater Molyneaux’s Milo AI for instance. it remains an exciting prospect.
