Review: HP ENVY LAPTOP
HP’S ENVY LAPTOPS ARE STYLISH POWERFUL AND designed for creatively-minded types: that puts them in direct competition with the MacBook Pro. The updated Envy comes in two sizes: 17 and 14 inches. So can it outdo Apple at its own game?
The top-of-the-range Envy now offers a dual or quad-core Intel i7 processor, backed up by 4GB of DDR3 RAM. The hard drive boasts an agreeable 5ooGB of storage, while an All Mobility Radeon HD 585o graphics chip is capable of handling games as well as PowerPoint.
The ful117.3 inches of full-HD Ultra BrightView Infinity Display is ideal for showcasing album artwork or photographs. The HP Envy also includes a Blu-ray drive -a feature that was noticeably absent from the previous Envy generation and is still missing from the MacBook Pro. There’s also HDMI and VGA connectivity. Activate the Beats feature and you also garner the full musical advantage of a built-in subwoofer.
THE HP ENVY IS NO MACBOOK PRO WANNABE. ITS SPECS MAKE IT A REAL CONTENDER
The 14-inch model is obviously more portable but still boasts similar specs to its 17-inch sibling, only trade-down is the Intel i5 processor. You do get the option of adding built-in 3G (£TBC) and, with the optional base-mounted battery extender (£TBC), a 13-hour battery fife.
Whether consciously or not, III’ has echoed the MacBook Pros aesthetic with an aluminum chassis. IHowever with impressive specs and windows 7, the HP Envy is no “me too” knock-oil. It’s a serious contender.
Price 17-INCH FROM £1,299 : 14-INCH FROM £999
