Samsung BD-C6900 3D BLU-RAY Player

3D SPINNER The first Blu-ray deck to play 3D movies. Now if only there were more than two of said movies available…

The BD-C6900 is a feature-proofed and rather handsome device that plays 2D and 3D Blu-rays, up-scales DVD’s to 1080p and suck video from your computer, mobile device and the net via Wi-Fi.

Picture quality in 2D is sharper than Odd-Job’s hat. We sampled a selection of our favorite movies on it as both Blu-rays and upscaled DVD’s, and were left salivating at the clarity.

Those looking to enter the third dimension will be pleasantly surprised by the result. The 3D Blu-ray edition of Monsters Vs Aliens that comes bundled with Samsung UE55C8000 looks out of this world, with tangible depth.

The BD-C6900 is also a media streamer, Attach it to your home network, either wired or via the integrated N Wi-Fi, and it’ll locate media stored on your PC or NAS device . It canplay a wide range of file types includeing hi-def MKV video diles as well as tapping into YouTube and picasa from the web.

With an artful interface boasting easy to use, large icons for online video, music, photos and settings it’s so quick to set up and painless to use.

Connections include a full set of 7.1 channel analogue outputs, an HDMI v1.4 port , ethernet and a USB port that’s positioned on the front.

The BD-C6900 is a statement Blu-ray player, from its glossy black case to its translucent lid with blue-glowing halo. Overall it’s a convincing 3D first from Samsung, delivering excellent quality video from regular content and 3D, even if 3D capability perhaps isn’t the most compelling reason to reach into your pocket at the moment, with so little content available – especially if you’re not a fan of middingly competent kids cartoons.

At £280 you are paying a bit of a premium for the added dimension, but if you’ve just shelled out £3,000 for a Samsung UE55C8000, it’ll seem like a give-away by comparison. As with the 8000, you’re best off seeing it as a great 2D deck that may one day host a wealth of 3D content.

Love – Excellent 2D and 3D Blu-ray performance. Network media streaming and plenty of file support

Hate – lack of 3D films to play on it. No 3D specs included in the price
